How to play FreeCell
- Deal: 52 cards are dealt face up into 8 columns (four columns of 7, four of 6).
- Goal: move every card to the 4 foundations, building each one up by suit from Ace to King.
- Columns build down in alternating colours (red on black, black on red).
- Free cells hold one card each. Use them to dig out buried cards, and empty them again quickly.
- An empty column accepts any card or ordered run.
- You can move an ordered run as a group if there is room to move it one card at a time: (free cells + 1) × 2 for each empty column. If the destination is empty, count one fewer empty column.
Strategy tips
- Free Aces and Twos first; look for them before your first move.
- Empty a whole column early. It is worth more than any free cell.
- Before using a free cell, check that you can empty it again within a few moves.
- Keep long alternating runs together; breaking them costs free cells later.
- Use Undo freely. Every deal is replayable by its number.

Almost. Among the original 32,000 Windows deals only #11982 has no solution. That deal is labeled here and remains playable.
Do deal numbers match Windows FreeCell?
Yes. Numbers use the Microsoft FreeCell shuffle, so Game #1 and Game #617 match Windows FreeCell card-for-card.
Can I play a specific game number?
